Helios Acquires Major Data Centers in Morocco and Kenya, Boosting Digital Infrastructure

Tuesday 22 November 2022, by Sylvanus

The London-based private investment fund specialized in Africa, Helios Investment Partners, announces that it has acquired a majority stake in two data centers in Morocco, Maroc Datacenter (MDC) and in Kenya (IXAfrica).

In a press release, Helios Investment Partners states that MDC and IXAfrica are well positioned to play a central role in the digital transformation of Morocco and Kenya, respectively, and will benefit from Helios’ expertise in setting up world-class, fast-growing and high-impact multi-country platforms in Africa.

Founded in 2017, the Moroccan company MDC operates in the Rabat region, where it runs a single 2,000 m² facility. This facility "will serve as a key building block in a broader Helios hyperscale data center platform" in the metropolitan areas of Rabat and Casablanca, serving global hyperscale clients and domestic enterprises, Helios said.

IXAfrica was created in 2021 in Kenya to capitalize on the growing demand for Internet connectivity from the country’s young and highly connected population. The company’s strategic geographic location along the Mombasa road in the capital Nairobi provides immediate access to virtually all of the country’s existing major Internet connectivity infrastructure.
