Helicopter Service Awaits Approval for Spain-Morocco Route

The company "Hélity" is still awaiting the necessary authorizations from the Spanish authorities to establish helicopter air links between Algeciras and Tangier and Tetouan. To get around this difficulty, it is examining the possibility of connecting the two Moroccan cities from Gibraltar airport.
Helity has been seeking for years to launch new lines, in addition to Malaga and Ceuta on which it currently operates from Algeciras. But the Spanish authorities are slow to grant it the necessary authorizations to start these new links, according to sources at El Faro de Ceuta.
It has been more than four years since the Spanish Ministry of the Interior presented in the Council of Ministers a project aimed at allowing the Algeciras heliport to function as a Schengen border crossing point. But so far this project has not been approved, effectively blocking the helicopter link with the port of Cadiz and with Tetouan and Tangier.
The same sources recall that the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency had issued in July 2010 to the Algeciras heliport a certificate of compliance with the required standards to carry out air transport operations. For the moment, this heliport only serves Ceuta, an autonomous city that is not part of the Schengen area.
