Health Inspectors Shut Down Two Halal Butcher Shops in Essonne for Severe Hygiene Violations
Saturday 27 April 2019, by
Two halal butchers located in Essonne were closed a few days ago for "lack of hygiene". It was following a complaint from a private individual that the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations went to these premises, which were almost new.
Two butchers languishing in notorious insalubrity. This is at least what can be retained from the list of grievances drawn up by the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations (DDPP), particularly for the facts reported and related to the closure of two halal butchers in Essonne, reports the newspaper Le Parisien.
"A state of disorder and dirtiness of the premises and equipment, the presence of pests, insufficient hygiene equipment for the staff, lack of control or monitoring of the temperature of food products and very poor condition of meat storage..." This description of the DDPP concerning two butchers located in Saint-Michel-sur-Orge and Fleury-Mérogis in Essonne, prompted the prefecture, following an inspection, to decide on their closure.
For the representative of the State in Essonne, "the two butchers presented major anomalies that justified emergency closures." And to add that "given the level of seriousness, an emergency public health protection measure had to be applied."
Overall, the populations approve of this decision, which moreover confirms what they have often denounced. "Frankly, it didn’t really inspire confidence here," says Albert, a resident of the Bois-des-Roches neighborhood. "But the problem is that all the businesses here seem unsanitary. So we tell ourselves that it’s us who are wrong. It’s a good thing there are these checks," he is pleased.
