Health Experts Warn of Covid-19 and Flu Overlap as Winter Approaches

Given the resurgence of the coronavirus in the Kingdom, doctors urge vigilance not to confuse seasonal flu and Covid-19. They recommend the vaccine against the next seasonal flu.
With the approach of the annual flu season, the Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, warns about the similarities between the two infectious diseases, reports Al Massae. The most common symptoms remain fever and dry cough, and the appearance of signs of fatigue. As for the severe symptoms, Professor Youbi indicates that about 72% concern the respiratory system, while 20% concern the digestive system, and only 16% report having difficulty breathing, or suffer from chest pains.
Faced with so many signs of symptom similarities that can lead to misdiagnosis, and given the coincidence in the occurrence of the two diseases this year, the risk of unreliable diagnoses is high.
The vice-president of the national health federation, Taib Hamdi, in an interview with the Arabic daily, recommends, like several doctors, the vaccination of the most vulnerable populations, particularly children and the elderly, against the next seasonal flu, the newspaper reports, adding that a seasonal flu vaccination campaign is planned from October in hospital centers throughout the Kingdom.
