Hakimi Shines as PSG Clinches Trophée des Champions Against Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain started its 2025 year in the spotlight by winning the Trophée des Champions against AS Monaco, thanks to a narrow victory (1-0). While this result strengthens the Parisian club’s ambitions, the performance of Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi particularly caught the attention of the sports press, with praise but also some criticism.
For Footmercato, Hakimi confirmed his rise this season, earning a 7/10 rating. The former Borussia Dortmund player stood out for his constant availability, with 53 balls touched in the first half, and his powerful offensive runs. "Very available for his teammates, he quickly brought an offensive contribution," the media notes, mentioning in particular a dangerous shot in the 57th minute on a pass from Doué. A second attempt, in the 74th minute, was stopped by the imperial Kohn in the Monaco goal.
In the same vein, Parisfans gave an even more generous rating of 7.5/10, describing his performance as an "impressive match". The media insists on the perfect balance between his offensive runs and his defensive role. "He lacked a little bit of success to score," regrets the site, while saluting his ability to generate opportunities.
Hommedumatch, equally laudatory, also gives a 7.5/10 rating, considering that Hakimi was "active and solid on his side". The media highlights his incessant offensive runs and his effective breakthroughs that helped to energize the Parisian game. In the same vein, But Football Club (6/10) notes his fluid collaboration with Ousmane Dembélé, his partner on the right flank, emphasizing their complementarity.
However, not everyone has seen the Moroccan’s performance in such a favorable light. SoFoot, often more critical, did not hesitate to give a much lower grade, 4/10, stating that "his match will quickly be forgotten in the Hexagon". A harsh judgment, out of step with the other analyses, which illustrates a mixed perception of his performance.
Despite these differences, one thing is certain: Achraf Hakimi remains a pillar of PSG, both defensively and offensively. At 26, he continues to demonstrate his ability to be an engine in quick transitions and a nightmare for opposing defenses.
The Moroccan full-back also displayed solid defensive rigor, contributing to maintaining the score against a threatening Monaco team. While his offensive contribution has been unanimously praised, his finishing and efficiency in the final third will still need to be refined to fully meet expectations.
Achraf Hakimi’s performance against Monaco reflects the strategic importance of this player in the Parisian squad. Although opinions differ across the media, between satisfaction and frustration, it remains undeniable that the Moroccan has a decisive influence on PSG’s play.
