Hakim Ziyech responds to threats from an Israeli minister

Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech has responded to threats from Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security. The footballer criticizes a law providing for the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, stating that he is not afraid of political pressure.

The Atlas Lion provoked the anger of the far-right minister after sharing an image of the latter celebrating a bill establishing the death penalty. Hakim Ziyech publicly questioned the morality of this decision, asking whether it would be considered "self-defense". The 2022 World Cup semi-finalist, an outspoken supporter of the Palestinian cause in Gaza, has thus triggered a direct confrontation.

Itamar Ben-Gvir retaliated by calling the footballer an "anti-Semitic" player, arguing that he had no moral lessons to give. The minister hardened his tone by stating that the conditions of detention had evolved under his authority and that the sentences would be carried out. He concluded with explicit threats, assuring that Ziyech would not go unpunished. The latter firmly responded that he was not afraid of Zionism.
