Gunmen Open Fire on Ceuta Mosque, Sparking Panic; No Injuries Reported

Hooded individuals opened fire several times on a mosque in the city of Ceuta, before fleeing on a motorcycle. The religious motive (Islamophobia) is ruled out. The incident occurred very early on Monday, June 24, 2019.
According to the Spanish news agency EFE, hooded individuals opened fire several times on a mosque in the city of Ceuta, more precisely on the "Moulay Mehdi" mosque, this Monday, June 24. The criminals then fled the scene on a motorcycle.
There were no injuries, but the witnesses on the spot were very scared. This caused a panic movement. Twelve people were inside the mosque at the time of the events. In the video taken after the events, we can see bullet impact marks on the walls of the religious building.
The media El Pais specifies that the religious motive is ruled out by the Spanish authorities, who rather see in this case a settling of mafia scores between rival gangs. A person, member of one of them, would have taken refuge in the mosque; he was therefore the target of the shooters, according to the Iberian media, citing its own sources.
An investigation has, of course, been initiated by the Spanish police to shed light on this case.
