Green Party Candidate Calls for Ban on Unstunned Ritual Slaughter in France

The potential Green candidate for the 2022 presidential election, Yannick Jadot, advocates stunning before the ritual slaughter of animals, which is used in particular for the production of halal and kosher meats.
MEP Yannick Jadot wants to put an end to ritual slaughter without stunning animals. A religious tradition among Muslims and Jews. "There is no tradition that justifies making animals suffer," he judges on RMC. He also recalled his fight against "intensive farming". "Farming where animals never see the open air, it’s abominable for the animals, abominable for those who work there, it gives us food that is not of good quality," describes the MEP from Europe Ecology-The Greens (EELV).
Following this interview, the expected Green candidate for the 2022 presidential election clarified his position on the issue to avoid any controversy. "Let there be no ambiguity: religions can have their traditions, including their slaughter, but this slaughter cannot be exempt from animal welfare rules, and in particular the essential stunning. This has always been my position and it will remain so," he said in a short video posted on his Twitter account. In other words, Yannick Jadot advocates ritual slaughter with stunning. A practice contrary to Jewish and Muslim customs.
