Muslim Groups Challenge Belgian Ritual Slaughter Ban in European Court

In Belgium, Muslim associations have decided to file an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to challenge the decision of the constitutional court on ritual slaughter.
This concerns the Executive of Muslims in Belgium (EMB) and the Coordination Council of Islamic Institutions in Belgium (CIB), who have expressed their disagreement with the rulings of the Constitutional Court, relating to slaughter without stunning, declared in accordance with the Belgian Constitution.
According to a joint press release, the rule of law must not succumb to the growing political and social pressure of populist movements, who are waging a symbolic battle against vulnerable minorities across Europe.
The European Court of Human Rights is the ultimate guardian of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Europe. The Muslim community hopes that this Court will make reason prevail on this emotionally charged issue, the statement said.
