Brussels Residents Rally Against Ritual Slaughter Ban with 100,000-Strong Petition

The ban on ritual slaughter is still not to the liking of Brussels residents. An online petition has already collected more than 100,000 signatures.
While the file will soon be debated in parliament, the ban on ritual slaughter is the subject of an online petition. "For us, Brussels residents, this is a restriction on our freedom of worship guaranteed by the Constitution and a stigmatization of the Muslim and Jewish communities under false pretexts. In order to make our voice heard, we have formed the Citizen Collective for Freedom of Worship with the #MonAssietteMaLiberté campaign," explains the collective that initiated this petition.
For its part, Gaia has submitted another petition of more than 70,000 signatures to the Brussels Parliament for the ban on slaughter without stunning in the Brussels Region.
It should be recalled that it was in January last that Brussels MP Jonathan De Patoul (DéFI) relaunched the debate on ritual slaughter by tabling a draft ordinance. According to this project, stunning must be mandatory before any slaughter of animals, whether ritual or not.
