Grand Stade de Tanger: the 75,500-seat jewel inaugurated by the Atlas Lions
The Grand Stade de Tanger, freshly renovated, is preparing to reopen its doors. This inauguration marks a major step in Morocco’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Walid Regragui’s national team will be the first to set foot on the new pitch during two friendly matches scheduled for next week.
This project is part of Morocco’s vision to make sport a lever for development, capitalizing on the experience gained for the organization of the 2030 World Cup. The Tangier stadium has undergone a complete rehabilitation, at an estimated total cost of 3.6 billion dirhams.
The objective was to make it compliant with the strictest international standards. Its capacity has been increased to 75,500 spectators, placing it among the largest stadiums in Africa. The work has concerned all the facilities, from the construction of new stands to the development of vast parking lots (3,000 spaces).
The stadium is now equipped with modern facilities, including a press conference room for 310 journalists, hospitality areas and access adapted for people with reduced mobility. These facilities have already received the approval of CAF and FIFA delegations.
The Atlas Lions to inaugurate the venue
Walid Regragui’s men will have the honor of being the first to play in the rebuilt stadium. They will play two friendly matches in preparation for the CAN. The first match will pit the Lions against Mozambique this Friday, November 14.
The second match will take place on Tuesday, November 18 against Uganda. Both matches will start at 8:00 pm. These two matches should take place in a festive atmosphere, celebrating the return of this major venue on the continental sports scene.
