Good news for Moroccan employees
The Council of Government has validated a 5% increase in the guaranteed minimum interprofessional wage (SMIG) in the non-agricultural sectors. This measure, which will come into effect on January 1, 2026, marks the culmination of the social agreement signed in April 2024.
According to the daily L’Économiste, this decision closes the revaluation schedule agreed between the State, the trade unions and the employers’ organizations. Concretely, the hourly rate will increase from 17.10 dirhams to 17.92 dirhams.
The Ministry of Employment emphasizes that this increase brings the total progression of the SMIG to 20% over the period 2021-2026. In absolute value, this represents an increase of 3.11 dirhams per hour, or an estimated gross monthly gain of 594 dirhams for the employees concerned.
The agricultural sector will also benefit from a revaluation, but with a staggered schedule. The guaranteed agricultural minimum wage (SMAG) will increase from April 1, 2026. It will increase from 93 dirhams to 97.44 dirhams per day. Over the entire cycle, the SMAG will have increased by 25%, offering a daily gain of more than 20 dirhams compared to 2021.
These adjustments constitute the final stage of the tripartite agreement of April 29, 2024. If no new increase is scheduled beyond that date for the moment, this new legal threshold will apply to all companies from the beginning of next year.
