Gold Mine Attack in Morocco: 9 Suspects Detained as Investigation Unfolds

4 people were placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday following the instructions of the investigating judge at the Court of Appeal of Ouarzazate. They are accused of being involved in the attack on a gold mine in the province of Tinghir.
These four accused join five other people already incarcerated in the same prison and for the same case. According to Hespress, this pre-trial detention of the 9 people is a decision of the prosecutor of the Ouarzazate Court of Appeal. The magistrate decided to prosecute them under arrest for the serious acts they are accused of. They will be questioned in the coming days by the investigating judge.
In total, 27 people are involved in this case, one of whom succumbed to acid burns in the mine. His remains were exhumed two weeks after his burial on the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for an autopsy to determine the circumstances of his death. The exhumation was preceded by a visit to the judicial center of the Royal Gendarmerie of Tinghir to listen to members of his family.
Furthermore, the search continues for the arrest of the 17 other accused who are on the run for the purposes of the investigation. Like the first 9, they will be prosecuted for forming a criminal gang, attempted theft, non-reporting and failure to assist a person in danger.
