’Gladiator 2’ Filming to Resume in Malta After Hollywood Strike Delay

After a suspension due to the Hollywood actors’ strike, filming of the American-British film Gladiator in Malta will resume soon. Part of the film has already been shot in Ouarzazate, Morocco.
Ridley Scott will resume filming "Gladiator 2" on December 4, interrupted last July due to the Hollywood actors’ strike, reports Variety. The 85-year-old British director and his team will set up camp in Malta for the filming of half of the film. Before the strike and the paralysis of the entire sector for four months, Ridley Scott had told the New Yorker that he already had 90 minutes of sequences.
Irish actor Paul Mescal, 27, known for his role in the series Normal People, plays the role of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) who is now an adult, the story taking place after the end of the first film. Lucius was also the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the son of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who murdered his father to seize the throne.
The sequel to Gladiator, released in the United States in 2000 and awarded five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor, is expected in theaters on November 20, 2024.
