Gims arrested, his projects in Marrakech under the scrutiny of the justice system?

Rapper Gims was taken into custody this Wednesday in France for money laundering as part of an organized crime group. This arrest, linked to real estate investments abroad, raises questions about his recent mega-projects developed in Marrakech.

A bombshell for the best-selling recording artist in France in 2025. This Wednesday, March 25th, Gims was arrested at the Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport. According to the organized crime prosecutor’s office (Pnaco), the artist is in police custody and is being heard by specialized investigating judges.

French investigators are closely looking into the international affairs of the Congolese singer. The judicial file targets a vast money laundering network involving potential real estate investments abroad. A lead that inevitably raises questions about his recent and very lucrative projects developed in Morocco.

Settled in Marrakech for twelve years, Gims has indeed launched the luxurious residential complex "Sunset Village". By the end of 2025, this project was experiencing a resounding success with 700 million dirhams already secured, out of a projected turnover of one billion. These prestigious villas have quickly seduced a clientele composed of more than 50% Moroccans living abroad (MRE) and 25% internationals.

To build this complex located 10 minutes from the Hivernage, the rapper had partnered with banking and real estate professionals from the Horizon Morocco consortium. Acting as an investor and artistic director, the artist supervised the architecture and guaranteed European finishing standards for very demanding buyers.

The evolution of the judicial investigation now risks disrupting the future of this mega-project. Since January 2026, the third phase of the project was supposed to be launched with a shocking sales argument: the marketing of the artist’s own residence, called the "Villa 117".
