Gibraltar Explores Submarine Power Cable Link with Morocco for Renewable Energy

A project to install submarine power cables is currently under study. The objective of this project, which is to connect Morocco to the British territory of Gibraltar, is to allow this territory still under British administration to benefit from the development of renewable energy production in Morocco.
The electrical interconnection between Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula has been functioning for years, recalls Algeciras al minuto. It is 50% owned by Red Eléctrica Española (REE) and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and consists of two 400 kw lines, one commissioned in 1997 and the other in 2006, connecting the Fardioua terminal in Morocco to the Tarifa terminal in Spain.
By accompanying the realization of this new project of the British-Moroccan alliance, Morocco should benefit in exchange for Gibraltar’s experience in the financial sector, indicate sources from the British embassy in Rabat.
The Kingdom could also extend its military cooperation through joint military exercises with the British regiment based in Gibraltar.
