German Firm Invests in Morocco-UK Submarine Cable for Green Energy Transfer

Conenergy, a German energy services specialist operator, announces investments in the Moroccan-British electrical project that would provide green energy from Morocco to the UK via the Xlinks marine cable.
Announced in September 2021, the Xlinks project involves the construction of several 3,800 km long submarine cables to connect a renewable energy platform in southern Morocco with southwest England and operational by 2030. An installation that will provide 3.6 GW of reliable and clean electricity to the United Kingdom for an average of 20 hours per day according to Xlinks’ calculations.
The German Conenergy has announced the signing of a financial and strategic partnership with Xlinks on this project. Following the announcement, Simon Morrish, CEO and founder of Xlinks, said the company was looking forward to the opportunities offered by the partnership. According to the executive, Conenergy’s investment "demonstrates the growing confidence of the markets and our industry in the project and the benefits it will bring."
This investment means that Conenergy is joining Octopus Energy Group as a partner, which last May concluded a financial and strategic partnership with Xlinks.
