Genk Eyes Aït El Hadj as Potential Replacement for Rising Star El Khannouss

Anouar Aït El Hadj, the 20-year-old Belgian-Moroccan, could soon be transferred to Genk, one of Anderlecht’s biggest rivals. Genk is negotiating the transfer of Aït El Hadj, in anticipation of the departure of another Moroccan.
This transfer comes as Genk is preparing the succession of its playmaker Bilal El Khannouss (18 years old), who is considered one of the most promising talents in the Pro League. El Khannouss, one of the revelations of the World Cup, has been Genk’s standout player since the start of the season and is being courted by several major European clubs.
For Aït El Hadj, this transfer represents a new challenge. Lacking playing time (331 minutes in the Pro League this season) and regularly relegated to the reserve team, he needs to be on the pitch to thrive. Genk seems to be the ideal club for him, as they offer him the opportunity to play for the title and regain a more important place in a D1 squad, as well as the prospect of playing in the European Cup next season.
Thus, Genk plans to offer him a long-term contract (at least 4 years). Anderlecht, who is facing financial difficulties, is ready to let Aït El Hadj go. This transfer is a real coup for Genk, who could further strengthen their team as they are in the running for the title and a place in the European Cup. For Anderlecht, it is an important loss for their squad as they try to get back on track.
