Ex-Gendarme Busted: 30kg Hashish Smuggling Scheme Unravels at Morocco-Spain Border
The Moroccan authorities have arrested at the Beni Enzar border post a former civil guard (gendarme) in possession of 30 kilos of hashish carefully hidden in his car.
The information is reported by EFE, which announced on Saturday that a civil guard was arrested at the Beni Enzar border post, between Nador and Melilla, with 30 kilos of hashish hidden in his car. But in reality, the man is no longer part of the police force. He was dismissed from this corps 20 years ago, but had a false identity card made to continue to pass himself off as an active civil guard.
"The photo on the false card did not show the corresponding uniform or ’service uniform’ and the initials of the UCO had been screen-printed on a T-shirt. He had also forged the signature of the Director General of the Civil Guard," explains the Civil Guard in a statement.
The person concerned, as well as his wife who was on board the vehicle in which the drugs were found, were taken into custody, pending the conclusions of the investigation opened under the supervision of the Nador public prosecutor’s office in order to shed light on this case and to determine any links with an international drug trafficking network.
