A new gas field in Morocco

The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has just granted a new permit for the exploitation of a new natural gas field in Douar Oulad Belkheir, in the west of the kingdom.
The ministry has granted the license to the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) for a period of four years. The gas field to be exploited covers an area of 1.8 square kilometers and could provide more than 280,000 cubic meters of gas per day, according to studies carried out by the operating company Gulf Sands.
More than 350 hydrocarbon exploration permits and 27 exploitation permits have already been granted by Morocco for mining research and exploitation until 2022. This year, 1,092 research licenses and 79 exploitation licenses, withdrawn before May, have been reinstated. Similarly, 56 other permits have been granted to companies wishing to invest in the mining region of Tafilalet and Figig.
Two exploration wells have been drilled in the Gharb basin where exploration and research work will extend over a total area of 272,835 square kilometers, the Ministry of Energy Transition announced.
