Galicia Remembers: Memorial for Moroccan Couple Killed in Illegal Warehouse Blast 5 Years Ago

Dozens of people gathered on Tuesday in the Torre de Paramos neighborhood, in the city of Pontevedra de Tui, to pay tribute to Abdelkhalek and Zhour, a Moroccan couple who died five years ago in the explosion of an illegal warehouse.
The inhabitants of the municipality gathered in the May 23 park to pay tribute to the two victims of this explosion, which had caused, among other things, damage to more than 400 homes and 76 vehicles, and physical injuries to 36 people. A minute of silence was observed in their memory and wreaths were laid on their grave, reports Europa Press.
The Moroccan couple, Abdelkhalek and Zhour, who perished in this tragedy five years ago, left behind two minor children. The deputy mayor of Tui, Rafael Estévez, thanked the town hall for the reconstruction or rehabilitation work on the affected homes, which cost 3.5 million euros.
For his part, Salvador García, the spokesperson for the victims of the explosion, demands justice, stressing that the "legal battle" will be carried out "to the end" to see Francisco GL, the sole accused of the facts and responsible for the warehouse that exploded in May 2018, convicted. For the moment, no date has been set for his trial.
The man is accused of involuntary manslaughter and recklessness. The prosecution has requested a sentence of up to 14 years in prison, compensation amounting to millions of euros, as well as a ban on practicing any profession related to pyrotechnics.
