Fuel Prices Surge in Morocco: Diesel Nears 10 Dirhams, Gasoline Tops 10.50

Bad news for Moroccan motorists since yesterday, Friday, March 1st. Prices of various types of fuel have risen significantly at service stations.
Thus, since yesterday, the price of a liter of diesel has risen sharply, approaching the symbolic threshold of 10 dirhams, while that of gasoline continues on its momentum and now displays a price of over 10.50 dirhams in most service stations throughout the kingdom.
For the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the increase was expected due to the tensions between the Minister in charge of General Affairs and Governance, Lahcen Daoudi, and the oil companies, and on the other hand the opinion of the Competition Council which condemned, in an opinion, the very principle of a price cap, considering it incompatible with competition and freedom of prices.
The response of the Competition Council has, as expected, angered Lahcen Daoudi who, in a message once again published on Facebook, stated that the body chaired by Driss Guerraoui must strictly observe its duty of reserve, adding that its assessment is moreover unacceptable and postpones to the Greek Calends this reform demanded by all.
