Fuel Prices Surge in Morocco as Diesel Crosses 13 Dirham Threshold

Fuel prices sold at gas stations in Morocco have risen again on Sunday, with the liter of diesel passing back above the symbolic threshold of 13DH.
The dance of fuel prices continues. According to Hespress, the price of diesel has increased by a little more than one dirham, in the space of two weeks, crossing the 13 dirham threshold in several cities, specifying that in Casablanca, prices fluctuate around 12.96 dirhams per liter of diesel. The price of gasoline, on the other hand, remained unchanged, around 14.16 dirhams per liter.
This situation is attributable to the rise in crude oil prices and the drought that Morocco is experiencing, the site points out, adding that this has serious repercussions on the prices of basic necessities. To mitigate the effects, the government has committed to providing direct financial assistance to carriers, the amount of which varies from 1200 to 6000 dirhams depending on the type of transport (passengers, goods, tonnage, etc.).
An insufficient measure according to the National Federation of Gas Station Owners (FNPCGSS) which calls on the government to create measures to support gas stations and help them secure a safety stock, avoiding a financial imbalance.
And to specify that "the cost of supplying fuel has increased by more than a third, which has forced the majority of gas stations to go into debt to cope with the rise in operating costs".
