Fuel Prices Drop Sharply in Morocco as Global Oil Costs Decline

The drops in crude oil prices are reflected at the service stations in Morocco. A new drop was recorded yesterday, Tuesday, October 1.
Gasoline and diesel prices at the pump fell on Tuesday, October 1, by about 30 cents per liter, depending on the distributors. Diesel is priced at 11.47 dirhams per liter at Afriquia and Shell stations and costs 11.45 dirhams per liter at Winxo, as observed by Le360 on Tuesday morning, October 1 in downtown Casablanca. As for gasoline, the price per liter is 13.37 dirhams at Afriquia and Shell, and 13.34 dirhams at Winxo. These drops will be less significant at the service stations in certain cities of the kingdom due to the cost of transport and distance.
Prices remain unchanged for the moment at the Total distributor: the liter of diesel is sold at 11.77 dirhams and that of gasoline at 13.67 dirhams.
Despite the mobilization by the Moroccan government of direct financial aid, distributed to freight and passenger transport operators of all categories (taxis, buses, trucks, road tractors), Morocco ranks fourth in the ranking of African countries where fuel prices are the highest, in particular due to the kingdom’s dependence on fuel imports.
In its second quarterly report, the Competition Council specifies that the supply of the domestic market in diesel and gasoline recorded a total import volume of 1.47 million tons in the first quarter, an increase of 9.1% in volume and 0.9% in value compared to the same period of the previous year. Diesel continued to account for about 91% of the volume and value of imports, by fuel type, it also points out.
