Frontex Deploys 28 Agents to Boost Security at Ceuta Port for Marhaba Operation

The European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) has deployed 28 agents to ensure the security and fluidity of the transit of Moroccans from Europe via the port of Ceuta during the Marhaba Operation, between June 15 and September 15.

Led by agents of the Spanish National Police and agents from across the European Union, this Operation called "Minerva" started on Friday and aims to strengthen border control of people at the port of Ceuta, between June 15 and September 15, the period during which the Marhaba Operation takes place. For this control work, Frontex has deployed 28 agents in the autonomous city, reports El Faro de Ceuta.

On Friday, the agents, assisted by sniffer dogs, carefully inspected vehicles and trucks in Ceuta. But before that, they were welcomed by Javier Daniel Nogueroles, head of the National Police, who stressed the importance of their mission during this summer season when the flow of passengers will increase considerably.

The agents deployed by Frontex have diverse profiles. There are dog handlers, specialists in false documents and vehicle trafficking, intelligence agents, as well as senior police officers. They come from the police forces of Luxembourg, Lithuania, Germany, Belgium, France, Norway, Italy, Romania and the Netherlands.

Operation Minerva also aims to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and illegal immigration, to control the regular flow of migrants, while seeking a balance between security and fluidity.
