From Montpellier to Watford: how Moroccan Othmane Maamma won over English fans
The 20-year-old striker Othmane Maamma was named young player of the year by his club. Arriving from Montpellier, the Moroccan international shone both in England and with his national team during an exceptional season, despite a recent injury.
Transferred from Montpellier in July, the player had to wait before getting his chance with the first team. He made the most of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile to burst onto the world stage with Morocco. In October, his four assists and his goal guided his national team to final victory against Argentina (2-0). A tournament he dazzled with his talent, winning the Golden Ball as best player, followed by the young player of the year award presented by the Confederation of African Football.

The winger then multiplied his decisive actions, scoring a goal with a stunning outside-of-the-foot finish against Leicester, as well as a goal against Preston and an assist for Mamadou Doumbia against Wrexham. An impressive run, only halted by an injury that caused him to miss eight matches between February and April.
