French Woman Sentenced to Prison for Online Hate Speech Against Muslims

Originally from Nangis (Seine-et-Marne), a woman was sentenced to 4 months in prison with probation by the Melun Correctional Court. The defendant was tried on Thursday for posting a message on Facebook calling for the extermination of Muslims.
At the age of 53, this bus driver was tried for "public insults on the grounds of origin, race or religion by electronic means, incitement to a crime and incitement to hatred," reports Le Parisien.
She had, in a message posted on Facebook, called to "exterminate these fucking Muslims with a bullet in the head," before being immediately reported to the gendarmerie. Shortly afterwards, Michel Billout, the mayor of the town, informed the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Melun District Court.
At the hearing, the defendant, who had appeared with crutches due to a disability in one leg, said she wanted to "rather talk about the terrorists and not the totality of Muslims."
"It is a lady in distress who is angry with the whole world, especially foreigners who have a job and an income, which is not her case," observed the Prosecutor of the Republic of Melun, Béatrice Angelelli, who had requested 8 months of suspended prison sentence and 1000 euros against her.
