French Textbooks Begin Including Morocco’s Sahara in Official Maps

After French public television, the education sector is beginning to adopt the complete map of Morocco and its southern provinces. This is evidenced by certain French textbooks and school books published for the 2024 school year.
A first in France. Certain French textbooks and school books for the 2024 school year include the complete map of Morocco, from Tangier to Lagouira, in the far south of the Kingdom of Morocco. Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) have also shared pages from several French school textbooks, showing the map of Morocco incorporating the Sahara, available in many shopping centers specializing in book sales in France, we are informed.
Recently, French public television published a map of Morocco incorporating the Sahara. The adoption of the complete map of Morocco is part of France’s support for the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom. In a message addressed to King Mohammed VI commemorating the 25th anniversary of his enthronement, French President Emmanuel Macron said he considers "that the present and future of the Western Sahara are part of the framework of Moroccan sovereignty". He assured the Moroccan sovereign of "the intangibility of the French position on this issue of national security for the Kingdom". France "intends to act in coherence with this position at the national level and internationally," he added.
