French Shipping Company La Méridionale Cancels Barcelona-Tangier Route, Focuses on Marseille

The French shipping company, La Méridionale, a subsidiary of Stef, the European leader in refrigerated logistics, has decided to cancel the Barcelona-Tangier link. From now on, it is focusing on Marseille-Tangier.
La Méridionale will no longer operate the Barcelona-Tangier link. This is the decision taken by the management of La Méridionale at a meeting of the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) on February 2, 2023. This decision is justified by the losses recorded by the company on this maritime link. Before making this decision, the Stef subsidiary, the European leader in refrigerated logistics, studied the possibility of repositioning this link with textile flows between Morocco and Europe, as well as fruits and vegetables going up to Perpignan, as reported by Ouest France.
La Méridionale is now focusing on the Marseille-Tangier link launched on December 2, 2020. From two rotations per week from the start, the line has gone to three. But the Covid-19 health crisis that hit the maritime transport sector caused the closure of the line for seven months in 2021. The two chartered vessels only operated the three weekly rotations for five months.
