French Retirees Flock to Agadir as Morocco Becomes Top Retirement Destination

Morocco is increasingly attracting French people, not only as a tourist destination, but also as a place of residence for retirees. A recent report by TF1, entitled "Is Morocco a paradise for French retirees?", looked at this growing phenomenon.

The report highlights the appeal of the Kingdom for French retirees, particularly thanks to its mild weather. With pleasant temperatures in the fall, Morocco has become the third largest destination worldwide for this population segment. Agadir, in particular, now has nearly 4,000 French retiree residents, three times more than ten years ago. This enthusiasm is also explained by attractive tax advantages and exceptional sunshine.

TF1 gives the floor to Yves and Nathalie, a couple from Marseille who have chosen Agadir to live their peaceful retirement with a pension of 2,800 euros. The report shows how these retirees integrate into local life, notably by creating associations that maintain a link with French culture.

Agadir offers a pleasant living environment with easy access to shops and fresh produce, driven by the agricultural dynamism of the Souss-Massa region. The sunshine, which reaches 340 days a year, is a major asset. However, the report highlights the growing concern in the face of increasingly frequent heat waves, with temperatures approaching 50 degrees.

Finally, TF1 mentions the challenges Morocco is facing in terms of infrastructure and water resource management. The country is massively investing in projects such as desalination plants, particularly in the Souss-Massa region, to meet the needs of a growing population.
