French Report Finds Low Radicalization in Key Sectors, Urges Vigilance in Others

The rate of radicalization in the police, gendarmerie, the army and the national education system is very low in France, despite the persistence of the threat. This is what a parliamentary report has just revealed. However, progress is to be hoped for in the health sector, transport and in prison environments, the same document notes.
The Report by Eric Poulliat (LREM Deputy from Gironde) and Eric Diard (Les Républicains Deputy from Bouches-du-Rhône), published as part of an information mission of the French National Assembly on radical Islam and public services, revealed that the police, gendarmerie, army and national education are minimally affected by radicalization. This is why the two personalities call for vigilance.
This Report was carried out during a series of interviews conducted since last fall with public service officials. Proving reassuring in terms of radicalization within the security personnel, it considers that private security structures and municipal police must be taken seriously, since their members are on security missions and even armed. As proof, the proportions of cases are weakened at the level of each corps, namely 0.05% in the army, 0.03% in the navy and about thirty situations within the police and gendarmerie.
However, gray areas remain in the areas of health, transport, prisons, sports and universities. For these sectors, the lack of prevention, detection or "awareness" are to be taken seriously. "The policy of preventing and detecting radicalization remains underdeveloped within the public health service," the same Report notes, calling for an "urgent awareness" of the problem.
