French Official Calls for Violence Against Veiled Woman After Anti-Islamophobia Rally
An employee of the Meaux town hall launched, on October 19, a call to murder a veiled woman, following a demonstration against Islamophobia organized in Paris.
Hatred against veiled women seems to be producing the feared impact in France. Indeed, a rally against Islamophobia was organized at the Place de la République in Paris on October 19, to denounce the deleterious socio-political climate that is gripping France.
However, a photo of a woman wearing the headscarf and displaying a placard inviting Islamophobes to leave France if they no longer wish to see veiled women quickly provoked the wrath of the far right (the "fachosphere"), notably the Fdesouche website, reports desdomesetdesminarets.fr.
Many Islamophobic elected officials like Sebastien Kope, LR Municipal Councilor of Clichy-la-Garenne, posted the same photo on their accounts and pages. The comments follow one another on the web.
But one comment in particular caught the attention of Internet users. "Cut off this bitch’s head," said an employee of the Meaux town hall.
