French Muslims Prepare for Ramadan 2024 as Great Mosque of Paris Sets Date

The Great Mosque of Paris is preparing to announce the date of the Night of Doubt for Ramadan 2024. Muslim organizations such as the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) have already announced the start of the holy month in France.
The Great Mosque of Paris says it is "deeply attached" to the Night of Doubt, a tradition "that illustrates the unity of Muslims in the preparation of the blessed month". In this sense, it announces that a meeting of the religious commission will be held within the religious institution on Sunday, March 10, which corresponds to the evening of the 29th day of the month of Sha’ban. Objective: to determine and announce the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in France. "The religious commission will primarily take into account the visual observation of the new moon without excluding the results of astronomical calculations," the religious institution added.
"In accordance with the scientific data, the conjunction of the new moon of Ramadan 1445H will take place on March 10, 2024 at 10:00 am (Paris time). According to the calculation criteria adopted by the CFCM in 2013, the visibility of the new moon will be possible on the same day, particularly on the American continent. Also, the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), announces that: Monday, March 11, 2024 is the first day of Ramadan of the year 1445H," it is stated in a statement from the Muslim organization. It also announced that Zakat Al Fitr, the obligatory alms for each Muslim family intended for the poor regardless of religion, is set this year at 9 euros per person.
Based on astronomical calculations, the Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF) announced in January the first day of the month of Ramadan on Monday, March 11, 2024. "Given the most accurate scientific data, with regard to the month of Ramadan, namely the conjunction (new moon) which will take place, God willing, on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 09:01 GMT (10:01: Paris time) and the necessary conditions for the visual observation of the new crescent of Ramadan in the world which will be met, God willing, on the same day, Sunday, March 10, from 10:15 pm GMT (11:15 pm: Paris time), the first day of the month of Ramadan will correspond, God willing, to Monday, March 11, 2024," the theological body said in a statement, also announcing the date of Eid al-Fitr (first day of the month of Shawwal 1445), marking the end of the fasting month, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
