French Muslim Group Urges CFCM to Adopt Lunar Calendar Calculations for Eid Al Fitr

Muslims of France launched, on Friday, May 22, an appeal to the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) and the federations that compose it for the use of calculation in the determination of lunar months.

"As a gradual deconfinement is being put in place, we are preparing to celebrate Eid Al Fitr which marks the end of the Ramadan fast. The CFCM and the federations have jointly announced the beginning of this blessed month and will act the same way for its end," says Muslims of France in a statement, before launching an appeal to the CFCM.

"Muslims of France calls on the CFCM and the federations that compose it to continue this effort of cooperation and unity. We call on them to study for the future, the use of astronomical calculation for the determination of the visibility of the lunar crescent, in order to facilitate the organization of the private, social and religious life of Muslims," the Muslim organization wishes.

"The reliable and certain nature of the calculation and its very extensive forecasting capabilities can solve a number of difficulties that we often encounter, explains Muslims of France. We have the capacity to deal with them by taking the time for analysis and reflection, together and in the search for consensus."

"We are willing to do so and will respond favorably to contribute to it within the framework of the mission assigned to Muslims of France within the governing bodies of the CFCM," the statement concludes.
