The young Kamil, aged 8, was excluded from the canteen by the mayor of Pont-de-Chéruy, France, simply because he does not eat meat.
Alain Tuduri, the mayor of the municipality, has banned him from the canteen from the start of January.
The mayor has in the past been confronted with several cases. He was sentenced in 2015 to three months’ suspended imprisonment and a fine of €7,000 for favoritism and in 2009 to 18 months’ suspended imprisonment for discrimination.
The politician had also abusively used his pre-emption right to prevent property acquisitions by buyers with a Maghrebi-sounding name.
