French Marathon Star Flees Surprise Doping Test in Morocco
Saturday 6 April 2019, by
Clémence Calvin is the European vice-champion in the marathon. While training in the Ifrane region of Morocco, she was subjected to a surprise anti-doping test by the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD). And she is said to have slipped away to avoid it.
While refusing an anti-doping test carries exactly the same penalty as a positive test, namely a 4-year suspension from competition, Clémence Calvin, the European vice-champion in the Marathon, simply avoided the one that was imposed on her in Morocco.
Le Monde, which titles its article "Clémence Calvin, best French marathoner, evades an anti-doping test," writes in this sense: "the European vice-champion in the marathon, in August 2018 in Berlin, evaded a control in Morocco, where she was preparing for the Paris Marathon, of which she is to be the headliner, on Sunday, April 14".
Clémence Calvin would even have been targeted for a long time by the AFLD, which, on purpose, sent two French samplers, accompanied by Damien Ressiot, the director of controls of the entity. This shows how much she had to avoid doing what she did: take the powder of escape. This happened on March 27.
On the other hand, her coach (and companion) Samir Dahmani would have stated: "She is in preparation in Morocco but she has had no problem, has not evaded any control". Moreover, in the same vein, he declares: "Her location is up to date with the AFLD, and the agency knows where she is. On that side, there is no problem, he adds. I want to keep her away from all this. It’s me who speaks on her behalf but I can assure you that there is nothing at all".
Run, Clémence! Run!
