French Hotel Giant Accor to Expand into Moroccan Sahara with Government Backing

The French hotel giant Accor plans to build several hotels in the Moroccan Sahara, as part of the new policy of the French state to finance specific investment projects in this territory.
During his last visit to Rabat, Stéphane Séjourné, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed Paris’ willingness to finance investment projects in the Sahara provinces, "in support of Moroccan efforts."
"Morocco has invested a lot in development projects for the benefit of the local population, in the fields of training, renewable energies, tourism and the blue economy," the French diplomatic chief had said.
Sources indicate that the French authorities have just authorized the financing of projects in the Moroccan Sahara by French financial institutions such as Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD) or the Public Investment Bank (Bpifrance).
The French Minister Delegate in charge of Foreign Trade, Frank Riester, visiting Rabat this Thursday, should confirm this information in an official statement.
