French Expats Flock to Essaouira, Morocco’s Rising Coastal Gem

Recently elected the best tourist destination in Morocco, Essaouira is attracting many French people who are settling there.
The French channel "TF1" devoted a report to Essaouira, which was broadcast in its weekend show "50’ inside" on Saturday, March 29. Titled "Essaouira, the best destination in Morocco to change your life?", the report focuses on French expatriates who have chosen to settle in the city of the trade winds to make a new start. They are launching various projects there: vacation homes, pizzerias, pottery, jewelry creation, smoked fish, etc.
Why this interest in Essaouira? "It’s good to live in Essaouira and that has finally become known. For a few years now, this small seaside town has been transforming, trendy addresses are blossoming, often launched by French people, convinced that anything is possible here," notes the report. In addition, this seaside town located two and a half hours from Marrakech "is served by new air links, which can inspire more and more French people to come and take refuge for a weekend or a lifetime," notes the French channel.
Another asset: Essaouira is close to Safi. "120 kilometers from Essaouira, Safi is revealed. This land of red clay, rich in iron oxide, is renowned as the most beautiful in the country. 2,000 pottery artisans work there and export to Europe," comment the authors of the report.
