French Eurovision Singer La Zarra Expresses Regret for Post-Defeat Gesture

The Quebec-born Moroccan singer, La Zarra, France’s candidate, reflects on the gesture she made after her defeat at Eurovision 2023 and expresses regrets.
"Of course. Of course I hear them singing. In the streets of Liverpool I see people coming from everywhere. Singing the language of Molière. Of course I am proud to carry the flag of this France, I who am French in the act But not in the act of birth. Of course I have regrets," sings La Zarra in the cover of the music Évidemment that she had performed at Eurovision 2023. A way for her to apologize for her gesture after her defeat. When the results of the contest were announced, she had first pointed a middle finger down and then up towards the camera, with a haughty air. Since then, she has been criticized from all sides.
The singer, however, assures that if she had to do it again, she would. "Of course I’ll do it again, I’ll apologize, every time, I’m like that, that’s me Of course they’ll attack me," she says in the music track, before claiming her origins. "On my roots, my origins But I’m proud of them, like Dalida, Like Edith Piaf and like Céline," continues La Zarra, who thus refers to the origins of her idols Céline Dion (Quebec), Edith Piaf (Morocco) and Dalida (Italy).
