French Crypto Entrepreneur, 21, Sentenced to 18 Months in Moroccan Prison for Fraud

The father of Thomas Clausi, a young Frenchman sentenced last Thursday to 18 months in prison in Morocco, for "fraud" and illegal use of cryptocurrency, reacted to the court’s verdict. "My goal is for him to get out of there and start his life over," he said.
The 21-year-old entrepreneur had been arrested for assault and an illegal commercial transaction. Two people filed a complaint against him after a cryptocurrency settlement and a bounced check. Thomas Clausi was placed in detention on December 23, 2021 and finally tried this week in the Casablanca court. According to the verdict, he is sentenced to 18 months in prison and a fine of around 3.4 million euros.
Reacting to this sentence, his father, Joseph Clausi, declared: "I am almost happy that he was finally able to be tried yesterday. My goal is for him to get out of there and start his life over. I don’t want my son to be above the law, but to be judged fairly and to have humane detention conditions."
According to the father’s statements, Thomas called him after the verdict. "Phew, finally, I know where I’m going, that’s what he told me. He knows it’s 18 months now. He told me: 18 months dad, I’ve already done 10."
"I know you’re spending a lot of money dad, I dream of getting out and being able to rest for a few days, alone, quietly and away from everything. Dad, please, anywhere, in the Meuse or in a chalet, I dream of it, anywhere, alone, I just want to be alone for a week," he added.
