French Airlines Reroute African Flights Through Morocco, Bypassing Algeria

Flights operated by French airlines to Africa now pass through Moroccan airspace. Algerian airspace, once preferred, is thus being sidelined.
According to air tracking platforms such as Flightradar24, the Swedish online service, and Flightaware which allow real-time visualization of commercial aircraft trajectories worldwide, airlines Air France and Corsair have modified their flight plans to several African countries, now avoiding Algerian airspace.
Air France flights AF706 from Paris (CDG) to Abidjan (ABJ) are avoiding Algerian airspace and now passing through Moroccan airspace. On April 8, 2025, Air France flight AF706, which was supposed to use Algerian airspace, changed its trajectory. The Airbus A350-900 flew over Morocco. Following in Air France’s footsteps, Corsair modified the route of its CRL984 flight between April 07 and 08, and now avoids Algerian airspace by opting for a passage via Morocco.
Flights to Lagos, Conakry, and many others operated by these same companies have also modified their trajectory by avoiding Algerian airspace.
Could these route changes be linked to diplomatic and political tensions between Algiers and several neighboring capitals such as Rabat and Bamako? For now, no official source has yet commented on the subject.
