New Freight Route Connects Spain’s Motril Port to Morocco’s Al Hoceima

The port of Motril has just launched a maritime freight line with Al Hoceima. It is the first and only commercial route for freight traffic to the Moroccan city.
The maritime line between the ports of Motril and Al Hoceima, traditionally used for the transport of passengers, cars and vans, will also serve for the transport of goods by roll-on/roll-off trucks. After an initial test shipment that took place a few days ago, two trailers, loaded with various products (juices, glasses, cans, energy drinks, toilet paper, mineral water and canned goods) and weighing forty tons each, left Motril this Monday for Al Hoceima, reports Ideal.
This maritime freight link is the first and only commercial route for freight traffic between Al Hoceima and Motril. Shipments will be made every Monday and Thursday, with a forecast of fifteen trucks per week, the same source specifies, announcing the upcoming installation inside the port of Motril of a logistics activity zone of the local company Hub Place, which will be responsible for collecting the Spanish products to be transported to Morocco and delivering them once in the kingdom through its subsidiary Logisticx Maroc.
"Our intention and that of the shipping company Armas-Trasmediterránea is to consolidate the line and, in the future, to expand the rotations," said Javier Rubiño, the CEO of the company that will provide this link. This new maritime route will boost "the growth of the port’s freight traffic with Morocco and North Africa, and also the trade balance," added José García Fuentes, the President of the Port Authority of Motril.
