François Ozon to Direct Film Adaptation of Camus' 'The Stranger' in Morocco

"The Stranger", Albert Camus’ famous novel, will be adapted for the cinema. The film, which will bear the signature of director François Ozon, will be shot in Morocco this year.

Actress Rebecca Marder will play the female lead role in this adaptation of "The Stranger", reports the site Satellifacts. She will play Marie Cardonna, the companion of Meursault (Benjamin Voisin), the hero of the famous French literary work. After "My Crime" (2023), this is the second collaboration between the actress and the French director and screenwriter.

Albert Camus’ "The Stranger" was published in 1942. This masterpiece is the third most widely read Francophone novel in the world after Saint-Exupéry’s "The Little Prince" and Jules Verne’s "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". The novel is set in Algiers and tells the story of Meursault, an insensitive man who is unmoved by anything. He expresses no emotion following the death of his mother and is unable to demonstrate his love in his relationship with Marie.

The novel by Albert Camus has already been adapted for the cinema in 1967 by Luchino Visconti, with Marcello Mastroianni playing Meursault and Anna Karina in the role of Marie. The filming of this new adaptation will take place in Morocco, between April and May. The release date of the film is not yet known.
