Franco-Moroccan Singer La Zarra to Represent France at Eurovision 2023

In an interview, the Canadian-Moroccan singer La Zarra, France’s candidate for Eurovision 2023 expresses her pride in representing France, but also Quebec and her Moroccan roots in this competition. She hopes to give a great performance on the Liverpool stage this Saturday, May 13.
"I also carry the flag of Canada, the flag of Quebec and even of Morocco. It means a lot to me. We are cousins. We are defending the Francophonie on the Liverpool stage, we are the only ones singing in French. That means a lot, there is a beautiful message behind it. I hope to give a great performance that we will be proud of in Quebec and in France," said La Zarra, in a brief interview with Le Journal, on the eve of Eurovision. She will perform her song "Évidemment" there.
Will La Zarra be able to win the victory for France after 1977? "I really feel that people believe in it. [...] I hope to deliver on stage, give a great performance, that people will be touched, to be able to convey a lot of emotions. Sometimes, when you’re stressed, you’re too much in your head. I hope to transcend that and transcend the people." She expects Quebec to support her. "In Quebec, Canada and the United States, the rest of the world, they can vote for me," she said. "It’s super important because sometimes it’s 10 points and 20 points that change everything."
La Zarra is ranked fourth in the bookmakers’ predictions, out of about thirty candidates, behind the Swedish candidate Loreen, also of Moroccan origin and the big favorite, and the candidates from Finland and Ukraine, who won last year.
