Franco-Moroccan Artist Yto Barrada Wins Prestigious Queen Sonja Print Award

Franco-Moroccan photographer Yto Barrada has won the Queen Sonja Print Award 2022, the world’s premier graphic arts prize, which rewards graphic designers.
Yto Barrada. She is the graphic artist who has won the Queen Sonja Print Award 2022, a prize created in 2011. On Monday, Queen Sonja officially presented this award to the Franco-Moroccan photographer during a very simple ceremony held in the evening, at the Munch in the Bjørvika district of Oslo, reports Fad Magazine. The prize consists of a grant of 1 million Norwegian kroner, or nearly 100,000 euros, and a study stay at Ole Larsen’s studio in Helsingborg.
Born in Paris in 1971, Yto Barrada is a multimedia artist. She lives and works in Tangier and New York. Through her art, she addresses themes such as identity, development, nature and collective memory. She studied history and political science at the Sorbonne. She also attended the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York. In 2006, she received the Ellen Auerbach Scholarship, an award given by the Berlin Academy of Arts.
In total, 73 artists from 39 different countries were competing to receive the Queen Sonja Print Award (QSPA) 2022. QSPA is awarded every two years and comes with a grant from the Queen Sonja of Norway Foundation.
