Franco-Algerian Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 20 Years in Morocco for Trafficking

Accused of international drug trafficking, money laundering and kidnapping, the Franco-Algerian Sofiane Hambli has just been sentenced by the Moroccan justice system to 20 years in prison.
Tried by the criminal chamber of Rabat, the drug trafficker had been arrested in October 2021, recalls Hespress, which specifies that Hambli was detained in the Salé 2 prison "under high security given his dangerousness."
Aged 46, the Franco-Algerian was wanted in France where he was accused of having imported seven tons of cannabis, which led to the dismissal of François Thierry, the former head of the anti-drug fight.
In addition to this drug import, he is accused of having received 2.5 million euros "for the logistics of a project to import four tons of cannabis".
Last June, the Moroccan justice system had refused his temporary extradition to France. As a result, his trial, which was to open on June 7, had been postponed to December 9.
