France Seeks Moroccan Security Expertise for 2024 Paris Olympics

France has sought Morocco’s expertise in security to successfully organize the Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris.

Fearing that "past tragic security incidents" may occur, France has asked Morocco for help in ensuring the security of the Olympics, whose kickoff will be given in Paris on July 26, according to Jeune Afrique. In addition to security cooperation for the success of the 2024 Olympics, security efforts between the two countries are focusing on the fight against drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and terrorism, the pan-African magazine adds.

Recently, an agreement was reached in Morocco during a meeting between Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), and his French counterpart, Frédéric Veaux, for the two countries to work closely together to ensure the security of the 2024 Olympics (OG). This agreement is part of the strengthening of security cooperation between Rabat and Paris.

Morocco has extensive security experience. In 2022, it provided Qatar with its expertise in cybersecurity, particularly the security management of a major sporting event, the surveillance of sports sites and venues, the management of high-intensity gatherings and the security of information systems as part of the organization of the 2022 World Cup. An expertise appreciated and praised by Doha.

In the past, Morocco has helped France thwart several terrorist attacks, the most notable of which was the one prepared by the Islamic State against Hyper Cacher in the French capital in January 2015.
