French Interior Minister Darmanin Visits Morocco's Mohammed V Mausoleum

The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, takes advantage of his two-day working visit to Morocco to go to the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat.

In Morocco, the Minister of the Interior begins his official visit to Morocco with a trip to the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat on Monday. A way for him to pay tribute to the founders of contemporary Morocco. "Beginning of my trip to Morocco at the request of the President of the Republic. At the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat, we paid tribute to the founders of contemporary Morocco who have done so much to weave the friendship between our two countries," he writes in a post on X.

Invited by his Moroccan counterpart Abdelouafi Laftit, Gérald Darmanin has been staying in Morocco since Sunday. After the visit to the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, in the presence of the two officials and senior officials from the two ministries. Then the French minister met in the afternoon with the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Taoufiq. The talks between the two officials will focus on the training of imams. Finally, Darmanin took the opportunity to meet with French nationals living in Morocco.

This working visit is part of the deepening of the relationship between Rabat and Paris in terms of security "in an unstable international context", reports the French press. Recently, France has called on Morocco’s expertise in security matters to successfully organize the Olympic Games that will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris. Moreover, an agreement was reached in Morocco during a meeting between Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), and his French counterpart, Frédéric Veaux, for the two countries to work closely together to ensure the security of this major sporting event. In addition to security cooperation for the success of the 2024 Olympic Games, security efforts between the two countries are focusing on the fight against drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and terrorism.
