France Seeks to Mediate Morocco-Spain Border Crisis, Foreign Minister Says

French diplomacy is working for a resumption of dialogue between Morocco and Spain. Jean-Yves Le Drian made this known on Sunday, during a television program.
Received on the "Le Grand Jury" program of LCI-RTL, the head of French diplomacy announced that he had spoken the day before with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita "to try to contribute to the resumption of dialogue". He was thus speaking about the migration crisis on the Spanish-Moroccan border.
The French Minister of Foreign Affairs thus reiterated France’s wish to see the situation between the two countries normalize as much as possible, also regretting that relations on the issue of immigration were rather "positive and shared" between Morocco and Spain.
For a lasting and comprehensive resolution of the situation, France is counting on the "Asylum and Migration Pact" for which it is leading the discussions to harmonize the text to be submitted to the European Council during the first half of 2022, explained Le Drian.
Returning to the latest wave of migration, the French minister described the recent events between Madrid and Rabat as regrettable. "A few elements, a few incidents have led to this particular tension," he regretted.
