France Schengen Visas: Rejection Rate, Morocco Applications and Approval Rules

In an interview with Médias24, France’s consul general, Olivier Ramadour, described the 97% refusal rate cited by certain transport federations as “totally disproportionate.” According to him, the national refusal rate for Morocco remains around 10%, placing the country second worldwide among beneficiaries of French visas in 2025, just behind China and ahead of India.

The consular administration estimates that the actual issuance rate for truck drivers is in fact around 70%. Rejections are often explained by formal shortcomings, such as a failure to register with social security (CNSS) when changing employers. “Visa issuance is not automatic,” the diplomat stressed, noting that the labor shortage sometimes leads companies to recruit less-qualified candidates.

The consul nevertheless acknowledges cases of irregular immigration, in which drivers defect once they are in European territory. This reality requires the strict application of Schengen Area rules. Despite these constraints, the French authority says it processes 90% of applications in less than fifteen days, rejecting any intention to systematically block legal mobility.

To streamline procedures, the consulate favors a “trusted third party” system through partnerships with the Moroccan Association of International Road Transport (AMTRI). This arrangement makes it possible to grant favorable consideration to companies deemed reliable. Olivier Ramadour reiterated his openness to dialogue with all professional organizations in order to strengthen consultation and facilitate mobility within a secure framework.
